How to Realize You Can Do More Than You Think
For several years, I’ve been disabled as well as ill. Last year, I spent a lot of time in and out and recovering from surgeries. I couldn’t do much and I felt my strength decline for a long time. However, these past few weeks, I’ve come to realize that I can do more than I think. I started slowly but have picked up some pace. My daughter and son have helped for a long time with chores around the house.
Now, that my daughter is spending time elsewhere with someone she cares about, I’ve had to take over some things. Washing dishes was her thing for the longest time. I have a system I use to help me with everything. I start with getting things organized to handle bit by bit. Since my kids work the afternoon shift, I throw a load of laundry into the washer when I get ready to drop them off. By the time I get back, it’s ready to go into the dryer. Before I left, I always organize any dishes to be washed according to their function. When I return, after finishing with the dryer, I make any phone calls that need to be made then start the dishes.
Next, I look at my list of things to do day-by-day. Today, for instance, I had to clean the bathroom. I organized my cleaners, tools, broom, and mop water then set to work. I also sprayed done everything in the house with my can of Lysol spray. Changed the shower curtain. And deodorized. I washed all the throw blankets, covers, and pillows in the living room as well as the bedding in one bedroom. I’ll do the other bedroom’s things tomorrow.
This isn’t to boast but I wanted to show that even if you do a little each day, it helps. When you can do more, do so. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ll accomplish.
