The Writer’s Wheel 3/12/19

Loleta Abi

I finished the query and synopsis for my YA novel. I’ve had some feedback from my cp as to both and I’m making corrections. Let’s talk about time. Time to do what you want to. Do you take advantage of it? Or do you wile away the hours relaxing, thinking you’ll get to it some time? That may be true but what if it’s not? As we age, the hours we’re given fritter away. Don’t make the mistake of having regrets later in years because you didn’t chase your dreams.

I did that. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was eighteen. I let life get in the way. First, with an ex who was jealous of anything that took my attention away from him, then with not making an effort as I struggled to raise my children and work a full-time job as a single mom. I wish I would’ve started earlier. I wish I would’ve made more of an effort to learn the things I’m learning lately.

As we lose extra hours this time of year, perhaps our thoughts should be on what to do with what we have. I’m not wasting any more time on not pursuing my dreams anymore. What’s left of my life, I’m going to focus on writing. Publication or not. I intend to submit, submit, submit but that doesn’t mean I’ll see any results for a long time. And I still haven’t ruled out Indie if things don’t work out. That could be just as good an avenue. I just want to try traditional first.

So, how are you going to use your time? Don’t let it slip through your fingers like I did. Use it or lose it as the saying goes. Nothing seems more frightening to me than staring back at the end of your days wondering why you didn’t try. There is always failure. The worst comes in not trying to do something about your dreams. Chase them and succeed.

  1. You are right about time disappearing in a flash as you get older.. it is like we have accelerated….xx

    1. Yes, but the youth still think time goes too slow, lol. Maybe it’s all about what you have to do with your time. Because we’re older we have more responsibilities, therefore, less time to do everything in.
